Villain Rough Design


A rough design for one of the villains in the Legion of Super-Heroes story referred to in yesterday's post.

Really nice. you can really feel the mass on this guy. i like the kirby influence too.

you have so many different styles, how do you decide what works best for which piece?

Style...For personal work I just like to try different things and play around. I guess the style depends on the subject matter, the purpose of the work, the client etc..if it has to be "light" in feel then I can't really use a lot of blacks...Kirby might not be right for non-SF stuff...etc

I guess I'm looking at style like a "skin" that goes over the structure of the drawing or composition. The same drawing can be rendered an endless number of different ways, but underneath the baasic structure is the same. Yet those different skins can create quite different effects---fascinating to play around with.

I guess trying different styles is like a flexibility exercise, you try and see what makes other people tick. Some come easier and some are really hard. All in all you leanr something about yourself and about other people, by trying different styles...
