A ballpoint pen drawing from a sketchbook, which I colorized in Photoshop. It's not quite finished; I was going to add a whole background, but thass a lot of ballpoint-pen-lines...the hand quailed, deadlines intervened...
The drawing is awesome. Do you mind if I try to discuss a bit about it? It is really important for me to understand the thinking process behind it (if you don't think this as an extremelly boring thing)
Is it me or there is a light logistic on the composition that the city in the back is dark, the miniship middle tone and the the clouds light? Like the Burne Hogarth text of distribution of light and dark. Also the composition is divided in quarters with the miniship on 3/4 (top left/top right and bottom right) near the center of the page and the city in the middle of the bottom left.
Am I right saying this or your drawing thinking on these points is something else completelly different I didn't grasp or know about it?
Hope you don't mind me asking but for me is 'if you can talk to the master try to get some goddammit lesson out of him!!!'heheh)
Thanks for your kind comments. I'll probably be doing most of my "theorizing" over on my Scientific Artist blog. But...simply put, I compose images like this straight ahead, just trying to keep the masses and tones balanced yet interesting. As far as Burne Hogarth's books go, frankly I detest them and about 90% of the material. There are a few interesting things in them but I found a lot of it highly misleading at best.
I love being a channel for creativity and since roughly 1979 I've been creating comics covers and pages, graphic novels, animation background designs, illustrations, and more.

Hi Adriano,
